Reopening as a Holiday Cottage in April 2017

River Cottage has closed as a B&B after a thoroughly enjoyable ten years. We shall, however, be re-opening as a holiday cottage able to accommodate groups of between 6 and 20 people in April 2017. If you’re interested in making a holiday cottage booking, then please do so via Peak Venues using the link below. Sincere thanks to all our past guests, especially those whom we came to know well as a result of repeat stays.

Reopening as a Holiday Cottage in April 2017

River Cottage dates back to the middle of the 18th century and was the home of the Manager of the Ashford black marble mine. In fact, the main part of the house is built from this famous material, the mining of which was an important part of the local economy for over 150 years. The house has been a B&B since 2007 and over that time attention has been focused on preserving its heritage and character as well as developing the garden and enhancing facilities for our guests. Although the house is located on the A6, we hope you’ll find our garden to be a refuge, particularly on those evenings when the trout are jumping for mayflies and our guests are enjoying a pre-dinner drink by the river.

Our philosophy at River Cottage is really quite simple: we offer informal hospitality of the kind that we ourselves would enjoy. We’re both well-travelled and have sampled accommodation from the ‘corporate’ to the ‘shabby chic’, so we very much hope that we’ve got the balance right at River Cottage!

We wish you a very warm welcome to the website for our Michelin recommended boutique accommodation.
